Katie Shantz

Katie Shantz is a senior research associate in the Income and Benefits Policy Center at the Urban Institute, where her work focuses on policies affecting low-income families and antipoverty programs. She works on the Welfare Rules Database, tracking state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families policies and the Transfer Income Model.

Before joining the Urban, Shantz was a statistician at the US Census Bureau. Her research there focused on using administrative records to examine the extent of underreporting of benefit programs in survey data and the effects of underreporting on poverty measurement.

Shantz earned an MPA from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
