T’Pring R. Westbrook, a nonresident fellow in the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute, is an applied social scientist who believes that lessons learned from scientific endeavors should be translated into actionable guidance for practitioners and policymakers. She takes an interdisciplinary approach to examining the complex issues of poverty and societal inequities.

Westbrook previously worked in the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation with the Administration for Children and Families at the US Department of Health and Human Services. She also was part of the research and evaluation team at the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Westbrook is also the co–chief executive officer of TR Consulting Group, a research and capacity building firm committed to delivering high-quality services to organizations dedicated to serving Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. She hosts the Elephant Stories podcast, where she interviews leaders in the fields of antipoverty and social inequity. Westbrook is also an assistant professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Westbrook is interested in helping the nonprofit sector use data more efficiently, build data capacity within nonprofit organizations, and develop frameworks for evaluating complex initiatives.

Westbrook received her BA in mass media arts from Hampton University and her PhD in human development from the University of Maryland, College Park.
