The housing affordability crisis in the Capital Region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, continues to grow. Building enough new housing to meet demand and preserving existing affordability is a problem that will take collective effort to solve. The Housing Indicator Tool (HIT) is a digital dashboard that tracks affordable housing production and preservation at the regional and jurisdiction level. It also tracks policies jurisdictions have in place to facilitate the production and preservation outcomes the region seeks and to protect residents from discrimination and displacement. The region has made progress in increasing production, but to solve the affordability crisis, collective effort is needed from every sector: public, private, and philanthropic.

Join the Urban Institute and HAND for the 2024 HIT release and conversations from cross-sector leaders with a diverse set of perspectives that will provide a view of how each sector can contribute to the collective effort and address the advocacy, policies, and investments needed to increase the housing supply and create a more equitable region.
